NGT Eastern Zonal Bench inaugurates child play area

The National Green Tribunal’s Eastern Zonal Bench in Kolkata inaugurated its first-ever dedicated Child Play Area on Tuesday marking a pioneering step among all NGT benches in the country. The facility was inaugurated by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal, in the presence of his spouse, senior officials and staff of the tribunal. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ishwar Singh-Expert Member, Deepto Ghosh- Registrar, Tanusree Dutta- Deputy Registrar and Yashkumar Singh- Assistant Registrar along with officers and employees of the Eastern Zonal Bench.
The presence of children, for whom the facility has been created, lent a special significance to the occasion. Described as a first-of-its-kind initiative within the NGT system, the Child Play Area reflects the tribunal’s progressive approach towards employee welfare and the creation of an inclusive workplace. Officials said the initiative underscores the institution’s commitment to gender-sensitive and humane administrative practices.
The facility has been developed in alignment with the Palna Scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and complies with the provisions of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 (as amended), as well as directions issued by the Supreme Court of India on the provision of childcare facilities for working women. Designed for children between the ages of 3 and 10 years, the play area offers a safe and child-friendly environment.
