‘Haunting’ claims spark chaos, exam cancelled at Nainital school
An ordinary examination day at a school in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district turned chaotic on Monday, August 24, after a few students claimed they had experienced a “haunting”, triggering panic among their classmates.
Rumours of ghosts and spirits quickly spread from one classroom to another, with several students screaming and crying in fear. The situation eventually forced school authorities to cancel the day’s examination and send students home.
According to sources, a unit test was underway at a private inter-college in the Banbhoolpura area when a few Class 10 and 11 girls complained of feeling unwell and dizzy.
The situation escalated after one of the students began screaming uncontrollably. Students sitting nearby reportedly panicked, with some bursting into tears.
Soon, rumours began circulating that some students had witnessed or experienced a haunting. Fear spread across several classrooms, disrupting the examination as students became increasingly distressed.
School officials rushed to the classrooms after being informed about the incident. They tried to calm the students and reassure them before the situation gradually returned to normal.
The school was subsequently dismissed for the day and the examination was called off.
A school spokesperson confirmed that reports of some students falling ill had emerged but said the situation at the institution was normal.
