Row over biryani taste ends in stabbing at Delhi hotel
Two plates of chicken biryani, a complaint that the food was too salty, and a quarrel over payment allegedly culminated in a stabbing at a hotel in northeast Delhi's Welcome area, with police apprehending two juveniles for attacking a 25-year-old worker, an officer said on Monday, August 24.
The incident took place on August 21 at a hotel in Kabutar Market, where two customers, aged 14 and 15, allegedly picked a quarrel with the hotel staff after finishing two plates of chicken biryani and objecting to its taste, police said.
According to an officer privy to the investigation, the two first ordered two plates of chicken biryani and ate the food completely. When the hotel worker, identified as Ehasan, asked them to pay for the meal, they allegedly began arguing, claiming that the biryani had no taste and was too salty.
"The accused first ordered two plates of chicken biryani. They finished the biryani and when the worker asked them to pay money for the food, they picked up a quarrel saying that the food has no taste and was over salty," the officer said.
The officer said Ehasan initially tried to handle the situation and pacify the two customers, but they continued arguing with him. The confrontation soon turned violent when one of the juveniles allegedly pulled out a vegetable-cutting knife and stabbed the worker before both fled the spot.
Ehasan was taken to JPC Hospital by a neighbour following the incident. Police received information from the hospital at around 9:07 p.m., after which a team rushed to the spot and to the hospital, according to the officer.
Ehasan was later referred to RML Hospital for further treatment. A forensic team also inspected the crime scene and collected evidence as part of the investigation, police said.
An FIR under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at the Welcome police station.
Following registration of the case, a police team was formed to identify and trace the suspects. Officers examined available leads and conducted searches at several locations.
"Police teams acted swiftly after receiving the PCR call and eventually traced and apprehended both suspects. During verification, they were found to be juveniles aged 14 and 15. During questioning, the two admitted their involvement in the incident," a senior police officer said.
The vegetable-cutting knife allegedly used in the attack was also recovered from their possession. Police said further proceedings in the case are underway.
