Two Chinese sailors rescued after MV Ocean Winner sinks off Odisha coast
Two of the 24 crew members of Panama-flagged cargo ship MV Ocean Winner, which sank off the Odisha coast, were brought ashore at Paradip on Thursday after being rescued from the sea, officials said.
Indian Coast Guard Ship Varad brought the two Chinese survivors, Pan Tonglai and Chen Jianhe, to Paradip. They were rescued from a liferaft on August 22 and received medical treatment onboard the Coast Guard vessel during the journey, officials said.
The two survivors were handed over to authorised representatives of the shipping company in the presence of immigration officials and local police.
Search operations for the remaining 22 crew members are continuing, with the Indian Coast Guard and Navy conducting coordinated sea and air operations. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Beijing has also joined the effort, with the search area expanded to cover a wider stretch of sea.
The Coast Guard said a lifeboat belonging to MV Ocean Winner was located around 7 am on August 25, but a boarding team found no survivors on board.
The ship had 24 crew members, including 20 Chinese nationals, three from Myanmar and one from Bangladesh.
Coast Guard Commandant Amit Uniyal said the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Sri Vijaya Puram was coordinating with all agencies involved in the ongoing search.
