Yogi attacks previous UP government over recruitment, promises 1 lakh jobs
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said more than one lakh young people in the state would be provided government jobs over the next six months.
Speaking at an appointment letter distribution ceremony in Lucknow, where letters were handed to 818 candidates selected through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) and Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), Adityanath criticised the previous Samajwadi Party government over its handling of recruitment.
Referring to the appointment of Anil Kumar Yadav as UPPSC chairman, the chief minister alleged that an ineligible person had been given the post under the previous government. The Allahabad High Court had quashed Yadav's appointment in October 2015, describing it as illegal and holding that the selection process had not properly considered his suitability and competence.
Adityanath said the court's intervention and protests by young people reflected the problems associated with recruitment processes before 2017. He contrasted that period with his government's approach, claiming that recruitment boards and commissions were now conducting examinations through transparent and impartial procedures.
The chief minister also launched a broader political attack on the previous SP government, alleging that the state had suffered from corruption, discrimination, law-and-order problems and irregularities in recruitment. He claimed that young people had been forced to leave Uttar Pradesh in search of employment.
Adityanath said his government had sought to turn the state's large youth population into an economic strength. He also claimed that Uttar Pradesh had remained revenue-surplus for the past six years and had emerged among India's three largest state economies.
The chief minister said the distribution of appointment letters marked another step in the government's ongoing recruitment process and reiterated that more than one lakh additional government appointments would be made over the coming six months.
