Indian succumbs to injuries in Riyadh attack

An Indian national who was injured in the reported attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on October 10 has succumbed to his injuries, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday, conveying its condolences to the bereaved family and assuring all possible assistance for the repatriation of his mortal remains.
In an update on the incident, the MEA said the Indian national had unfortunately lost his life following the attack. The ministry added that it was in touch with the deceased’s family and would extend all necessary support to ensure the early repatriation of his mortal remains to India.
“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. We are in touch with the family and will provide all support for ensuring the early repatriation of mortal remains,” the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia said.
Earlier, India strongly condemned the reported attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, describing repeated strikes targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia as “completely unacceptable” and calling for an immediate end to such attacks.
In an official statement, the MEA expressed serious concern over repeated attacks on the airport in recent days, including the October 10 incident, which reportedly caused casualties, injuries and property damage.
“We strongly condemn the repeated attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport over the past few days, including the dastardly attack on October 10, which have led to loss of life, injuries and property damage,” the ministry said.
The ministry also extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It emphasised the need to protect civilian lives and safeguard critical infrastructure amid continuing security concerns in the region.
Reaffirming New Delhi’s support for Riyadh, the MEA said India stood in solidarity with the people and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We stand in solidarity with the people and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in defence of their sovereignty, and hope that peace and normalcy return to the region at the earliest,” the statement said.
The death of the injured Indian national has added to concerns over the safety of Indian citizens in the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia remains an important partner for India, with extensive ties in trade, energy, investment and people-to-people relations, as well as a significant Indian expatriate community.
India has consistently called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure during conflicts and urged all sides to prevent further escalation.
The MEA reiterated that attacks causing civilian casualties were unacceptable and called for an immediate cessation of strikes, expressing hope that peace and normalcy would return to the region at the earliest.
