New investors meet West Bengal BJP chief, industries minister

A steady stream of prospective investors has been making the beeline for Bengal, State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said on Sunday after a brief meeting with a group of prospective Navi Mumbai investors.
“The world of investors has been closely watching the developments undertaken by the Suvendu Adhikari Government in Bengal … they seem to be quite confident about the changing atmosphere in the State and have expressed their desire to invest in the State,” Bhattacharya, who, along with Industries Minister Tapas Roy, met a small group of businessmen, said.
“We have made it clear that the main object of our Government is to improve the law and order situation, which our Chief Minister has impressively done… we have also said that we will ensure an extortion-free State… we have managed to do it to a great extent though I won’t say we have been able to achieve total success… our efforts are on and soon we will ensure a robust law and order situation and free Bengal from extortion which was the characteristics of the previous (Trinamool Congress) Government,” Bhattacharya said.
“Minister Tapas Roy and I met the prospective investors, and they have shown keen interest in investing in Bengal… today it was a small meeting in here… after the Durga Pujas they will organise a big programme in Mumbai where we will remain present and meet all of them… and highlight our best points… we are sure Bengal will soon be flush with investors,” Bhattacharya, who last month met industrialist Kumarmangalam Birla, said.
The BJP Government was targeting employment generation, which required developing the MSME sector, he said, adding the Sunday’s meeting would go a long way in giving a fillip to that cause.
Sunday’s development comes close on the heels of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari meeting Reliance Group chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant. The Ambanis have also promised massive investment in the information technology and semiconductor sector, he said.
The Adani Group has also promised to invest about Rs 1 lakh crore in Bengal over the next decade. The Group has already started work on a Rs 4,000 crore, 4,000-bed hospital in Rajarhat, northeast of Kolkata. The hospital will also function as a medical college where 2000 bed will be dedicated to the economically weaker section of society.
