HM Amit Shah launches 'Mission 5 Million Trees' in Ahmedabad to boost green cover

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched 'Mission 5 Million Trees' in Ahmedabad, an ambitious campaign aimed at planting 50 lakh trees across the city. The initiative seeks to expand Ahmedabad's green cover and encourage greater public participation in environmental conservation. During the event, Shah also inaugurated several civic development projects and participated in a mass plantation drive at Science City.
Under the campaign, tree plantations will be carried out along major roads, public parks, dividers and other open spaces throughout Ahmedabad. To involve citizens, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced initiatives such as 'Green Volunteer', 'Memorial Park', and 'Green Societies' through the AMC Seva mobile application. Residents can register to have saplings planted in their homes or housing societies free of cost.
The campaign is part of Ahmedabad's broader environmental strategy to improve air quality, strengthen urban greenery and promote sustainable development. Officials said the large-scale plantation drive is expected to contribute to long-term ecological conservation while encouraging community participation in creating a greener city.
