Himanta hands over 1,879 appointment letters in Guwahati

In a major boost to the State’s employment drive, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday distributed appointment letters to 1,694 non-ADRE candidates and 185 contractual staff under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM). The ceremony, held at Jyoti-Bishnu Prekhyagriha in Khanapara, underscored the Government’s focus on meritocracy.
Addressing the gathering, Sarma revealed that the State has successfully provided 1,58,373 Government jobs to date, with the figure expected to touch the 1.8-lakh mark before the upcoming election notification. The new recruits include 784 Junior Engineers across various departments, 193 Agriculture Development Officers, and 240 legal professionals for the Home and Political Department.
“Every young appointee reflects our resolute focus on fairness and transparency,” the CM stated, adding that a dedicated committee has been formed to ensure this momentum continues over the next five years with a target of another 1.5 lakh jobs. Highlighting Assam’s economic surge, Sarma cited Reserve Bank of India data showing that between 2020 and 2025, Assam’s GDP grew by 45 per cent, significantly outpacing the national average of 29 per cent.
He attributed this success to ‘Team Assam’ and the efficiency of state officials, noting that the Jagiroad semiconductor plant is progressing faster than its counterpart in Gujarat. Urging the new appointees to maintain high ethical standards, the Chief Minister said, “You are the bridge between the Government and the public. We desire hardcore honesty to serve the people better.” The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers Atul Bora, Pijush Hazarika, and Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota.
