Heavy rains lashes in Mumbai, 100 mm rain in just 4 hours

Heavy overnight showers lashed Mumbai and its suburbs, bringing relief from humid weather but causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of the city. Multiple locations recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall within just four hours, making it one of the season's heaviest spells.
According to weather reports, the intense rainfall began late Sunday night and continued into Monday morning, inundating low-lying areas and slowing vehicular movement on several major roads. Commuters reported waterlogged stretches in parts of the eastern and western suburbs, although traffic remained largely manageable in most locations.
Residents shared visuals of flooded roads, overflowing drains and reduced visibility on social media as heavy rain persisted through the early hours. Slight waterlogging was reported in areas including Kings Circle, while several suburban localities experienced continuous downpours for hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall over Mumbai and adjoining regions as monsoon conditions remain active. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding, and commuters have been urged to check traffic updates before travelling.
Civic authorities are monitoring vulnerable locations and drainage systems to prevent flooding as more showers are expected over the coming days. Emergency teams have been kept on alert to respond to any rain-related incidents, while officials continue to monitor rainfall intensity across the city.
