Fresh floods, landslides hit Arunachal Pradesh; Over 97,000 affected across state

Fresh floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have disrupted normal life across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, damaging roads, bridges, schools and other public infrastructure, says officials.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the death toll in the ongoing monsoon disaster remains at seven, while over 97,000 people have been affected across 425 villages in all 26 districts of the state.
Flash floods caused by the overflowing Kumey River severely impacted Kurung Kumey district, where bridges connecting Huri, Damin and Pagam village were washed away. Residential houses, a church and the Inspection Bungalow in Parsi-Parlo were also damaged. St Thomas School was inundated, forcing the suspension of academic activities.
Heavy rain also triggered a massive landslide on National Highway-13 near Pakro village in Pakke Kessang district, while a section of the road leading to the Sela Tunnel in West Kameng was washed away. The Potin-Kimin Road in Papum Pare district remains blocked due to a landslide.

Officials said the state has suffered extensive damage to infrastructure, including 150 roads, 19 bridges, 21 culverts, 221 water supply systems, 58 government buildings, 156 power lines, 224 electric poles, 10 hydel projects, two hospitals and three schools. More than 541 hectares of agricultural land and 1,010 hectares of forest area have also been affected.
District administrations, along with police, paramilitary forces and disaster response teams, are carrying out damage assessments and relief operations in the affected areas.
