Election Commission notifies formation of new West Bengal Assembly after BJP’s landslide victory

The Election Commission of India has issued a formal notification for the constitution of a new legislative assembly in West Bengal, marking the completion of the electoral process in the state.
The notification has been forwarded to the Governor, officially concluding the election cycle and initiating the next phase of government formation.
According to a senior official, issuing the notification is a crucial constitutional step that follows the announcement of the assembly election results.
“With this, the commission has completed its role in constituting the new assembly. The process now moves forward as per established procedures for government formation,” the official said.
He also emphasised that the entire election process—from polling to counting—was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, strictly adhering to all statutory guidelines.
The notification clears the path for newly elected representatives to take oath and for the formation of the next government in the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party secured a decisive mandate, winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, bringing an end to the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state.
