Campaigning for College Union Polls Turns Violent in Northwest Delhi, Two Hurt
What began as routine campaigning for Satyawati College's student union elections spiralled into violence in northwest Delhi's Bharat Nagar on Tuesday, leaving two 19-year-old students injured and two vehicles damaged after a clash erupted between rival groups near Wazirpur village.
The injured students, Ansh and Bhavishya Chaudhary, were rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital for treatment. Police said preliminary information points to both an assault and a firing incident during the confrontation, which drew a swift police response to the scene.
Despite the reported gunfire, police have so far chosen to describe the episode simply as a "quarrel between college students," with a senior officer confirming the clash took place while the two were canvassing for votes ahead of the union elections. Officers said any further legal action would hinge on medical reports and the outcome of a preliminary inquiry.
A Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit visited the spot, where they found the two damaged vehicles and collected evidence for the investigation. Police are now piecing together what triggered the clash and are combing through CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved.
No arrests have been reported so far, and the investigation continues.
