Delhi LG InspectsYamuna river

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday inspected the Yamuna at Kalindi Kunj and called for involving scientific experts to develop practical and sustainable solutions for cleaning the river. During his visit to Kalindi Kunj Ghat, Sandhu took stock of the ground situation along the river, accompanied by senior officials from concerned departments. The visit comes amid ongoing concerns over pollution levels in the Yamuna.
Officials said the Lieutenant Governor discussed bringing in local and international experts from leading scientific institutions and organisations to address the issue. The focus, they said, will be on identifying long-term measures that can be implemented effectively. Sandhu stressed the need for a scientific and coordinated approach to tackle pollution. He said expert inputs will play a key role in shaping future interventions aimed at improving water quality in the river. The visit is part of continued efforts by the administration to monitor conditions on the ground and accelerate clean-up work. Authorities have been under pressure to ensure visible improvement in the Yamuna, particularly by reducing untreated waste entering the river.
Later in the day, the Lieutenant Governor also travelled on the Delhi Metro and interacted with commuters during the journey. He described the Metro as an example of efficient and reliable public transport.
Sandhu said such systems can help solve several urban challenges if implemented effectively across cities. Officials said he spoke with passengers and took feedback on their daily commute.
He highlighted the role of well-managed public transport in reducing congestion and improving mobility in Delhi. The two engagements reflect the administration’s focus on key urban issues. While the Yamuna visit centred on environmental concerns, the Metro ride highlighted the importance of strong public transport systems. Officials said the government is working towards integrated solutions that combine infrastructure development with environmental sustainability.
Sandhu’s field visit and commuter interaction indicate a focus on both policy planning and ground-level assessment. Authorities said further steps on the Yamuna clean-up will follow after consultations with experts. The administration is expected to outline specific measures once inputs from scientific institutions are received.
