Delhi Congress slams purification ritual after Kharge rally

The Parliamentary Affairs Committee of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), led by president Devender Yadav, passed a resolution condemning what it called an insult to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The resolution was passed after Hindu activists reportedly performed a “purification” ritual at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following a rally he addressed there. The resolution, moved by Yadav and seconded by SC Department chairman Rajendra Pal Gautam, was unanimously approved. The meeting, held at Rajiv Bhawan, also discussed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union elections and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections.
Senior leaders present included AICC treasurer and MP Ajay Maken, AICC Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin, Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, former MP Udit Raj, Abhishek Dutt, Manish Chatrath, DPCC general secretary Anil Bhardwaj, former ministers Haroon Yusuf and Yogananda Shastri, former SC Department chairman Rajesh Lilothia and former mayor Farhad Suri.
Yadav said the party had rebuilt itself at the grassroots over the past two years, crediting the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan for earning Delhi Congress top ranking in AICC’s organisational review under general secretary KC Venugopal.
He alleged SIR was being used to eliminate over 45 lakh votes in Delhi, calling it a blot on democracy, and said Congress had deployed 13,031 BLA-2 workers compared to a poor AAP presence.
Maken praised the swift turnout of workers for protests over Rahul Gandhi and Kharge related issues, citing booth level vote data from the last election as evidence of Congress’s continuing base.
