Chouhan, Himanta launch agriculture, rural projects in Assam

Opening a new chapter in the State’s agriculture and rural development sector, Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, launched several major initiatives here on Monday. At a high-profile event held at the Jyoti Bishnu Antarjatik Kalamandir in Khanapara, the Union Minister formally handed over the approval letter for Rs 1,819 crore sanctioned for Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY IV, 2025-26).
The Union Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed building of Assam Seeds Corporation Limited and launched two innovative mobile applications — ‘Krishi Sarathi’ for the Agriculture Department and ‘Rural One’ for the Panchayat Department. Additionally, a social audit module for the AWAS Plus app was unveiled.
Marking a significant milestone in rural housing, one lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin formally performed house-warming ceremonies during the event.To ensure fair returns for the State’s potato farmers, the Government signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with PepsiCo and SBI. Under the Chief Minister’s Utkarsh Yojana, cheques were handed over to ten Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Krishnendu Paul, and Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture Minister UG Brahma, MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, MLAs Atul Bora and Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Assam Seeds Corporation Chairman Prabin Hazarika, Additional Chief Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, other senior officials, and beneficiaries of various schemes were present on the occasion.
