BMS unions slam bank strike as politically motivated

Strongly condemning the nationwide bank strike called on September 11, 2026, by banking organisations affiliated with the ‘INDIA’ alliance, banking unions affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) — specifically the National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) and the National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) — have termed the agitation as “untimely, unnecessary, and politically motivated.”

In a joint press statement, NOBO and NOBW asserted that the strike prioritises political considerations over national interest and public service. The unions highlighted that the timing of the strike coincides with the high-profile BRICS Summit hosted by India, where representatives and world leaders from approximately 21 nations — representing roughly 41 per cent of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — are gathering.

“At a time when the nation is showcasing its economic strength, financial stability, and global leadership, any disruption in banking services sends an unfortunate and avoidable message to the international community,” the joint statement issued by NOBO, NOBW, and BMS affiliates stated. The organisations alleged that anti-India banking outfits were staging the strike at the behest of their political masters to tarnish the country’s image globally.
