Barricades removed outside Mamata Banerjee residence, Security scaled down at Abhishek Banerjee office after TMC defeat

In the aftermath of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) losing power in West Bengal, security arrangements around key party leaders have begun to ease. Barricades installed outside the south Kolkata residence of outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were partially removed on Tuesday, following her defeat from the Bhabanipur constituency.
Police personnel were seen dismantling guardrails near her residence at 30B Harish Chatterjee Street. Although no formal notification was issued, officials on-site confirmed they were acting under instructions from higher authorities.
“We have followed directives received from senior officials,” a Kolkata Police officer said, without elaborating on the reasons.
While a police kiosk remains in place, the previously heavy security presence in the area has been significantly reduced. The locality, once a high-security zone with strict movement checks and identity verification for residents, is now witnessing a return to normalcy.
In a similar move, security deployment outside the Camac Street office of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee has also been withdrawn. The office has long served as a central hub for party activities.
Officials indicated that a broader reassessment of security cover for leaders associated with the outgoing TMC government is underway. Senior leaders such as Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, and Sujit Bose are also part of this review.
Authorities stated that security deployments are routinely evaluated and adjusted in line with the prevailing situation.
