Slight rise in minimum temperature due to western disturbance

Tuesday, 07 January 2025 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The State experienced a slight rise in its minimum temperatures today, attributed to the impact of a Western Disturbance that has been making its presence felt across the region. The weather conditions have brought moderate to dense fog in several isolated locations, with the skies remaining partly cloudy throughout the day.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, the state is likely to witness a gradual increase in the minimum temperature by 2 to 3°C over the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual fall of around 2 to 4°C in the subsequent three days. This fluctuating temperature pattern is a typical result of the ongoing Western Disturbance, which is affecting the region.

The Western Disturbance, which is a weather system originating from the Mediterranean, has been identified as a trough between 3.1 km and 12.6 km above sea level, with its axis extending from 3.1 km above the mean sea level. In addition to this, another trough is running from north Punjab to the west-central Arabian Sea, crossing an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining southeast Rajasthan at 1.5 km above sea level. These meteorological conditions are contributing to the unusual weather patterns being observed in Jharkhand.

As of today, Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 10.4°C, while other parts of the state, including Jamshedpur, Bokaro, and Daltonganj, reported minimum temperatures hovering around 11°C. These temperatures are slightly above the usual cold conditions the state typically experiences during this time of year, thanks to the influence of the Western Disturbance.

Weather experts are keeping a close eye on these developments, as the state braces for a change in temperatures over the coming days. It is expected that the rise and fall in temperatures will continue to fluctuate, impacting daily life and possibly affecting agriculture in the region. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather warnings and take necessary precautions, especially in areas experiencing dense fog, which may reduce visibility.

“ While the Western Disturbance has brought a slight rise in temperatures and foggy conditions to Jharkhand, the weather will continue to remain dynamic in the coming days, with both rises and falls in temperature expected. Locals and visitors are urged to stay prepared for these changing weather conditions and follow any advisories issued by the IMD Ranchi Centre,” said an official.
