JBVNL disconnects power supply to NP university

Sunday, 06 April 2025 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

The JBVNL (Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam limited) has disconnected the electricity supply of the Nilamber Pitamber University over around a week.

The disconnection is on account of unpaid electricity bills worth more than 11 lakhs of rupees.

The power disconnection has adversely affected the examination works like computerization of the preparations and publications of results further going to be delayed said university sources.

The results of the 5th semester exam of the undergraduate students are caught in the mesh of the power disconnection.

On the other hand executive engineer electricity Santosh Kumar maintained, "There is a huge dues worth more than 11 lakhs. The disconnection is because of the huge dues pending for months and months."

Asked about this more than 11 lakhs of rupees as unpaid incharge registrar S K Mishra said "These dues rest with the construction agency. It's the construction agency that is liable to pay the bills of the electricity that it consumed all these months and months."

The incharge registrar admitted that till date the university has no HT (high tension) power connection from the JBVNL.

The university is not a valid consumer of the JBVNL till date.

The university, taking advantage of the power supply of the construction agency, used its electricity for the entire works of the university, said sources.

Now when such a hopping bill worth more than 11 lakhs of rupees has come, the construction agency is dragging the university to bear the cost of the bill as the university had been a beneficiary of the power supply meant for the construction agency said sources.

Executive engineer electricity Santosh Kumar said "The construction agency is telling us exactly the same thing that as the university was all through using its power supply in all these months and months, the dues are to be paid or cleared by the university."

"The electricity department is in no way concerned about who used the electricity. It is concerned about its unpaid bills against the consumer here the construction agency."

As the power supply connection is of the construction agency its supply has been disconnected and by default this disconnection is again of the university too as the university was said to be a silent beneficiary of the power supply and now the university is bearing the brunt of the disconnection, said sources.

University sources said the VC Dinesh Kumar Singh today held parleys with the executive engineer of electricity and asked for the restoration of the power supply to the university in the larger interest of the students.
