PMO approves extension of metro’s Yellow Line till Narela

Thursday, 09 January 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has approved the extension of Delhi Metro’s yellow line to Narela, instructing Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for extending the metro.

This comes following Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta’s letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 27, requesting the extension. In addition, on December 6, the Delhi BJP Legislative Party led by Gupta met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar and submitted a memorandum regarding the same.

The Delhi metro informed Vijender Gupta via a letter that the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs have instructed DMRC to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for extending the Metro to Narela.

“In a meeting held between MoHUA and DMRC recently, the proposal for extension of the yellow line to provide Metro connectivity to Sonipat via Narela was discussed. In a meeting held recently, MoHUA directed DMRC to take up the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extension of the yellow line from Samaypur Badli to Narela (DDA sports Complex) and further extension of Red Line (Line No 1) from Nathupur (Kundli) to Sonipat. MoHUA accorded in-principle approval on 08.10.2024 for the preparation of DPR. Accordingly, various field surveys i.e. Topographical survey and Traffic survey are in progress for the preparation of DPR,” the letter by DMRC to Gupta said.

The LoP expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for approving the extension of Delhi Metro's Yellow Line to Narela. In his letter to the Prime Minister, Vijender Gupta highlighted that the current Yellow Line Metro corridor operates from Millennium City Center in Gurugram to Samaypur Badli in Delhi.

While an extension to Siraspur Metro Depot has already been approved by the central government, densely populated areas like Siraspur, Kheda, Alipur, and Narela are still not connected to the Metro network. Gupta emphasized that extending the Yellow Line corridor from Badli-Siraspur to Narela would immensely benefit millions in these areas.

Gupta pointed out that the areas around Alipur, Kheda Kalan, and Narela are densely populated and severely lack Metro connectivity. “The absence of an adequate public transport system in these regions necessitates the extension of the Yellow Line to Narela,” he added.

The senior BJP leader noted that the rapid development of Alipur, Narela, and adjacent areas in recent years has significantly increased the population, resulting in severe traffic congestion, wasted fuel, and loss of valuable time.

“Extending the Yellow Line Metro from Siraspur to Narela via Kheda Kalan and Alipur would not only ease commuting for the residents but also reduce traffic congestion, save resources, and improve the quality of life for millions,” Gupta remarked.
