Delhi chief minister Atishi on Wednesday raised concerns over alleged large-scale voter deletions and additions in the New Delhi assembly constituency, putting forth the matter with a second letter to the chief election commissioner (CEC). She requested an urgent meeting to address the issue, citing its critical impact on the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, now less than 27 days away. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the BJP of instructing its seven members of Parliament from Delhi to manufacture fake votes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the national capital.
This is the second letter the senior AAP leader has written to the chief election commissioner over the allegation of deletions and additions of voter in the constituency, held by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. She requested an urgent meeting to address the issue, citing its critical impact on the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, now less than 27 days away.
In her letter, Atishi referenced her earlier correspondence dated January 5, 2025, in which she pointed out irregularities in the voter list and sought an immediate appointment with the CEC. “This is regarding my earlier letter dated 05.01.2025 highlighting the issue of large-scale voter deletions and additions in the New Delhi assembly constituency. I had sought an appointment from your good office for a meeting to apprise you of the issue in person.”
She added, “However, in response to my letter, my office has received a correspondence (attached) from Lalit Mittal, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi stating that the office is ascertaining the facts mentioned in my letter.”
Atishi, in the letter, claimed that the matter is beyond the authority of the local CEO and given the date of voting for the high-octane elections the issue should be given highest priority. “Sir, in my letter, I sought an urgent appointment with your good self to personally discuss this matter and seek directions since this matter is beyond the scope of the local CEO. With less than 27 days left for the Delhi Assembly Elections, this matter should be considered at the highest priority,” she added.
She asserted that Delhi is the only state going to polls during this time, and the entire county and its media will closely follow the elections and its processes. “We place our trust in the Election Commission of India to uphold the principles of free and fair elections. Once again, I would like to ask you to please give an appointment as soon as possible to ensure free and fair elections in the upcoming Delhi Assembly,” she said.
The AAP chief and former Chief Minister also took to X and alleged that the seven BJP MPs have been asked to add fake voters in their constituencies. “According to sources, the Gaali Galooj Party has given targets to its seven MPs to get fake votes made in the New Delhi Legislative Assembly in the next few days. Let's see how many applications for making new votes come in the next few days. Everyone should keep an eye on this,” he shared.
Kejriwal added, “Atishi ji has sought time to meet the Chief Election Commissioner. We hope we will get time soon.”
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that every party has the right to present its complaint before the Election Commission but the Chief Minister is preparing a stage not for making any valid complaint but for blaming the Election Commission.
“The AAP leaders have realized that they are losing the Delhi Assembly elections and all their efforts to protect fake Bangladeshi and Rohingya voters have become public, so now they are preparing for post-defeat defense. All "AAP" leaders including Chief Minister and former Chief Minister are now doing the correspondence drama to question the impartiality of the Election Commission,” he claimed, adding that after a few days, they will question the impartiality of their own Delhi government as well as the Delhi Police.
