The Under 19 Athletics Competition at the 68th National School Sports Competition concluded on Wednesday.as players from all over the country displayed their sporting talent in various disciplines of athletics.
Kerala became the overall winner of the Under 19 Athletics Competition with 138 points. Maharashtra with 123 points and Tamil Nadu with 104 points secured the second and third spots respectively in the competition.
Amongst the boys, the best athlete award was bagged by Saif Chafekar of Maharashtra who scored a total of 1,134 points while Chiranath of Karnataka stood second with 1,068 points and Saravan KC of Kerala stood third with 1,042 points. Amongst the girls, Vanshika of CBSC grabbed the first prize with 988 points followed by Thea of Tamil Nadu with 968 points and Harshita Goswami of Delhi with 951 points.
Kanke MLA Suresh Baitha was present as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony.
The host state- Jharkhand got a total of three medals in the Under 19 Athletics Competition. Jharkhand has received medals in the boys 400- meter race, girls long jump and girls 400- meter hurdle race. Saket Minj has won the gold medal in the boys 400- meter race where as Preeti Lakra clinched the gold medal in the girls long jump and Shivani Kumari won the silver medal in the girls 400- meter hurdle race. Jharkhand stands at the ninth position in the medal table with 33 points.
Players from various parts of the country displayed their strength in a total of 41 events in the Under 19 Athletics Competition. The Under 14 Athletics competitions will be conducted in Jharkhand from January 11 to January 14.
The state of Jharkhand has got the hosting of four sports events for the year 2024- 25. Preparations for successful organisation have been started by the School Education and Literacy Department of the State government.
