AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday lambasted BJP for running an operation to create fake votes in his constituency, New Delhi. He revealed that applications for creating 20-30, and even 40 new voter IDs have been filed from the homes of several BJP ministers and MPs during December and January.
“How is it that so many people suddenly started living in BJP MPs' houses? There are cases where a single-room slum has applications for 30 new voter IDs, or a small shop has applications for 40 new voter IDs. Who are these people?,” Kejriwal sought to know.
Arvind Kejriwal said that clearly, the BJP has already accepted defeat. “Gradually, the public is realizing that BJP does not fight elections fairly. They rely solely on dishonesty during elections. Our workers have been vigilant and caught each of their misdeeds,” he said.<The former Delhi CM also wrote to the Election Commission to complaint regarding BJP MPs in New Delhi Assembly transferring votes from across India to their residences on a large scale.
“I write to you with grave concern regarding the repeated attempts by members of the BJP to manipulate the voter lists in the New Delhi Assembly constituency in a systematic effort to subvert the integrity of the upcoming elections. What is happening in Delhi today is a stark reminder of the days when India used to witness rampant booth capturing at gunpoint. Had BJP's attempt to fraudulently delete 5,500 genuine votes (5.5 percent of total voters) and add 13,000 fake votes (13 percent of existing total voters) succeeded, the New Delhi constituency would have been permanently altered by a staggering 18 percent votes.”
“This is nothing less serious or shocking than an attempt at large-scale booth capturing that India has seen in the past. In many ways, it is even worse than the booth-capturing practices of the past, which were at least done in broad daylight, and everyone could see the criminals' faces. Here, the BJP is engaging in backdoor tactics to hoodwink the people of Delhi and manipulate electoral rolls secretly,” the letter read.
“After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) caught these attempts to manipulate voter lists, BJP has now resorted to a new way to manipulate electoral rolls — it is transferring votes from across the country to the New Delhi assembly using the addresses of its own Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers who live in the New Delhi constituency. Shockingly, 33 new votes have been submitted for being transferred to BJP's candidate Parvesh Verma's official residence. Are we expected to believe that overnight, 33 people from across India have shifted their residence to that of Mr. Verma?,” he wrote.
“It appears that several BJP Union Ministers and Members of the Union Cabinet are involved in this malpractice. I urge the Election Commission to immediately register a criminal FIR against those responsible and take strict action to prevent such blatant attempts at subverting the democratic process,” highlighted Kejriwal.
