MLA Raj Sinha on Monday raised question regarding making police stations and OP effective for common man, appointment of police personnel against vacant posts and improving the policing system to curb rising crime in state in general and Dhanbad in particular besides increasing of police station in proportion to rise in population.
Sinha described the reply given by the government in response to his question as misleading. While speaking in the Assembly on Monday he made the House aware of the actual situation, and said that neither police stations nor OPs have been created as per the standards of the National Police Commission. All the police stations and OPs that are there at present in this state and Dhanbad district were created in the 90s while the population of Dhanbad has crossed 30 lakh. Majority of the OPs are running in rented houses, they do not have the complete system, they have a shortage of manpower whereas there has been an uncontrollable, unexpected increase in criminal incidents in proportion to the police stations, OPs and police personnel. The law and order situation in Dhanbad, besides the entire state, has collapsed, he claimed . In 80 percent of the cases, the criminals are acquitted by court in absence of concrete evidence and this shows how the officers investigate cases . Sinha also raised the issue of rise in incidents of extortion and threats from businessmen, doctors, and others in Dhanbad and demanded immediate crackdown on criminals. He also demanded filling up of vacant posts of police personnel so that economic related crime too can be controlled.
