Chhattisgarhi music has its own unique identity: Nitin Dubey

Saturday, 04 January 2025 | SHRIJAN DUBEY | RAIPUR

Noted Chhattisgarhi singer Nitin Dubey said that Chhattisgarh’s music has its own unique identity in the world because it always stayed true to its roots.

Nitin Dubey is a veteran of Chhattisgarh’s film industry, ‘Chhollywood,’ with over three decades of experience in music making. He began his journey as a stage performer in 1988 and began playback singing in 2001.

He is now recognised across the country and abroad for his works as a composer, vocalist, music director, and actor.

He has received several awards for his contributions to Chhattisgarhi music, including the Chhattisgarh Ratna award.

His best works include Raigarh Wala Raja, Chanda Re, Hay Mor Chandni and other blockbuster songs. He was the music director in famous films like Mister Majnu, Ka Ihi La Kaithe Maya and Dil Pardesi Ho Ge Re.

He said that although Chhattisgarh has adopted the modern methods, the artists here have never forgotten their roots.

The best quality about the entertainment media produced here is that it always tends to be family friendly, he remarked in an interview with The Pioneer.

To further progress the local culture, the music and the films need to be separate industries, he said.

Because when they work together, music loses its creative freedom as it has to be moulded as per the needs of the movie, he opined.

He stressed that there should be a government programme that facilitates the travel of local talents abroad and allows them to perform there. This will further boost our music’s popularity.

There was a huge digital footprint that showcases the popularity of Chhattisgarhi music abroad, he claimed.

Regarding the upcoming film city in Nava Raipur, he said that it would be beneficial as it would attract more talents and trained professionals. Presently, they have to outsource some of the technical aspects of the work.
