The newly elected members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly are all set to attend a three-day-long Orientation programme from Thursday to learn Parliamentary practices, procedures and conduct of business rules in the House.
The orientation programme will be conducted at the Central Hall of J&K Legislative Assembly Complex, Jammu.
The programme is being organised by J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat in collaboration with PRIDE, Lok Sabha Secretariat.
The ninety (90) Member House presently has eighty-eight (88) members, of which, fifty (50) members have been elected for the first time.
In order to help the newly elected members effectively discharge their onerous responsibilities of meeting the aspirations of the people, this three-day orientation program is being held on Parliamentary Practices, Procedures and Conduct of Business in the House.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather, Deputy Chief Minister are expected to attend the inaugural program.
The first Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was constituted on 8th October 2024.
The orientation programme will feature discussions by eminent Parliamentarians like Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Chairperson, Committee on Estimates; N.K Premachandran and Dr. Satayapal Singh, former Members Lok Sabha. The subjects to be discussed and deliberated during the programme included Legislative Processes, Budgetary Process, Executive Accountability through Questions, Committee System and Information Support to Legislators, Do’s and Don’ts for an Effective Legislator and a session on NEVA.
The insights gained through these lectures will provide the newly elected members with a deep understanding of the workings of the legislature and the responsibility they carry as elected representatives. The lectures will also be co-hosted by Senior Officers of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
This programme is expected to enhance the capacity of MLAs to significantly contribute to policy formulation and ensure its effective implementation for the greater good of the Union Territory.
