Twins use CCTV alibi to commit robberies

Sunday, 29 December 2024 | PNS | Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh police have uncovered an extraordinary case of theft involving identical twin brothers who used an elaborate trick to carry out robberies and mislead authorities.

The brothers, Saurabh and Sanjeev Verma, devised a method where one would commit the crimes while the other ensured he was seen on CCTV at a different location, creating an airtight alibi. If caught, the criminal would present the CCTV footage to prove his innocence, claiming he was not at the crime scene.

This ingenious scheme remained undetected for a while, but the police recently uncovered the ruse and arrested the twins. Their latest robbery took place on December 23, when they targeted a vacant house in Mauganj city.

After breaking in, the brothers forced open cupboards and boxes, stealing valuables worth lakhs, including jewellery and cash. A massive manhunt ensued, leading to the arrest of three suspects, including Saurabh Verma.

However, the case took a dramatic turn when Sanjeev appeared at the police station, claiming to be the man who had already been arrested. The appearance of Sanjeev caused confusion among officers, who initially believed the detained suspect had escaped.
