Supply chain system to be improved: Tirkey

Tuesday, 10 December 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey assumed charge at the departmental office located at Nepal House on Monday. After assuming charge, Tirkey said that along with improving the supply chain system, work will be done on the utility of cold storage.

The Agriculture Minister said that first the focus will be on three things. "Agriculture University will be improved so that more and more work can be done in the interest of farmers. The functioning of cooperative societies will be improved. The role of middlemen will be eliminated. The Agriculture Department will try to generate revenue. Youth will also be involved in this sector," she added.

The Agriculture Minister was welcomed by Agriculture Secretary Abubakar Siddiqui.

Just a day earlier, the State's Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said in a conversation with the media that a high-level team from Jharkhand will visit these two States to study the mining model of neighboring States Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Kishore said that despite having 40 per cent of the Country's minerals, Jharkhand gets only Rs 11 to 12, 000 crore revenue, while Odisha gets Rs 50, 000 crore revenue from mining. In 2016-17, "Odisha received Rs 4,900 crore revenue from mining, which increased to Rs 50, 000 crore in 2021-22," he added.

The Finance Minister also said that the Government has started covering the cost of many welfare schemes including the Maiya Samman Yojana scheme. "Despite an annual budget of Rs 1.28 lakh crore, the State Government will need at least Rs 17,700 crore per year for the Maiya Samman Yojana alone. For a woman, even an amount of Rs 2,500 matters a lot. This means that she will no longer have to beg to afford basic medicines like cetirizine or Calpol tablets. Nor does she need to depend on her husband to buy small things," he added..

Kishore also put forth his views on the pending dues of Rs 1.36 lakh crore with the Centre. On the pending dues of Rs 1.36 lakh crore, he argued that political morality is to demand the Central Government to act impartially and release the funds. "Under our federal system of governance, going to court to demand one's dues from the Centre would be a stigma. The Centre should admit its mistake and come to the negotiating table and discuss how they plan to release Jharkhand's pending funds," he added.
