Ram temple consecration celebrations to generate Rs 5,000 crore business in city

Given religious fervour associated with the consecration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, markets in Delhi are expected to generate business worth over `15,000 crore during the ceremony on January 22 with a huge quantity of flags, special clothes, garlands, lockets, key chains, pictures of ram darbar,  diyas,  banners and angvastra imprinted with the picture of Bhagwan Ram arriving in local markets from other cities.

With less than two weeks to go for the grand event which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, temples and markets associations are readying to celebrate the consecration of Ram Mandir.

According to traders, Lighting   arrangements are being made in Naya Bazaar, 21 thousand lamps will be lit in Sarojini Nagar Market. Saffron balloons and flags will be put up in Lajpat Nagar market, Sundar Kand will be recited. Special arrangements are being made in Rohini, shopkeepers of Nehru Place will also celebrate Diwali on the day of Pran Pratistha. Special decorations will be done in Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazaar on 22 January and a procession will be taken out.

Stating this here on Friday, Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal and President Subhash Khandelwal said the local markets receiving these products include Sadar Bazaar, Chandni Chowk, Maliwada, Kinari Bazaar, Karol Bagh, Gandhi Nagar, Tank Road.

 Goyal said special programs will be organised on January 22 in more than 100 retail and wholesale markets.  Each market association is sharing its programs, business organizations are following each other’s ideas.

Ahead of the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the demand for saffron flags bearing images of Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman and the upcoming grand temple has risen manifold. Saffron flags bearing images of Lord Ram and the upcoming Ram temple, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant, or an image of Lord Hanuman — often seen on the rear windshield of cars — are in big demand, according to local shopkeepers. “Saffron flags carrying images of Lord Ram and the upcoming Ram temple are particularly a big hit among the devotees,” he added.

There is tremendous enthusiasm in the markets of Delhi on the day of inauguration of Ram Temple and all the market associations are busy in preparations for this.

Goyal said special programs will be organised on January 22 in more than 100 retail and wholesale markets.

There will be a bhandara in Kashmiri Gate, garlands have been put up in Kamla Nagar, saffron flags have been put up in Khan Market, people of Karol Bagh are also busy in preparations, Sunderkand will be held in Laxmi Nagar, there will be lighting like Diwali in Dariba Kalan, jewelers will give discounts. 

There will also be a Ram concert here, there will be Bhandara for everyone, boxes of laddus will be distributed in Bhagirath Palace, the gates will be decorated. Special demand is being seen for Ram temple model, Ram costume, garland, crown, bow, flag, locket, key rings, photo of Ram ji etc.  Flags are being sold for `60 to `300.

The price of badge is `50 per piece while beautiful models of Ram temple are being sold for `200 to `1000, he said adding a large number of kurtas and T-shirts with Ram ji’s photo are being sold in the markets.

The business of people dealing in earthen lamps, rangoli, sweets, gift items, flower arrangements, orchestra, tents and decorations, electric strings has increased suddenly.

Goyal said nanner of any political party and photo of any politician will not be displayed adding there was a consensus among the traders that Lord Ram belongs to everyone and no one is greater than God, hence neither the banner or flag of any political party nor that of any photo of politician will be used in the celebration of the inauguration of Ram Temple.
