Senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur on Monday released an ‘aarop patra (charge sheet)’ against AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of turning Delhi into a "corruption lab" through a series of "scams". The ‘aarop patra’ document highlights the expenditure on the redevelopment of the Civil Lines home where Kejriwal lived when he was the chief minister, his and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s arrest in the excise policy case, and that of Satyendar Jain in a separate money laundering case, air pollution, the polluted Yamuna and poor sanitation, among others. Ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, the state unit of the BJP has formed a "chargesheet committee" that has so far issued detailed reports listing the alleged failures of the ruling AAP MLAs.
Addressing the media at the Delhi BJP office, party MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, "This charge sheet has stories of AAP's corruption. Arvind Kejriwal has made fake promises to people living in Delhi. He said would provide free medical, water and electricity, but people still pay for these services. AAP said that they would make Delhi corruption free but their eight ministers and 15 MLAs were jailed." Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, and other party leaders attended the event.
Reacting to BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s ‘charge sheet’ with allegations of corruption against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday said the BJP had no agenda ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls except to abuse him. Slamming them for lacking a Chief Ministerial face or any meaningful agenda, Kejriwal asserted that the BJP is attempting to contest the elections by focusing solely on targeting him with abuses.
"What kind of a party is this which came to power promising to give corruption-free government but was involved in eight to nine scams related to the liquor policy, Delhi Jal Board, DTC, Waqf Board," Thakur charged while releasing the document.
"Ghotale Pe Ghotala, Kejriwal Ne Banaya Delhi Ko Bhrashtachar Ki Prayogshala" (Kejriwal turned Delhi into a laboratory of corruption with scams), Thakur gave the slogan and asserted that the BJP will remove the AAP from power in Delhi. "Kejriwalji, you often say you are number 1. In what area are you number 1? In the country, the costliest water is provided by your government. Delhi is number 1 amongst the world's most polluted capitals. Delhi has India's most corrupt ministers," Thakur said.
"AAP took 1.6 million dollars from Sikhs For Justice and Pannu has also accepted this. In the Punjab Assembly polls, they took the support of Khalistani groups. AAP is providing security to illegal Rohingya immigrants," the BJP said in its accusations against AAP.
“This is the only government where the Health Minister, Deputy CM, and the CM have all been imprisoned. Promises were made to establish free clinics and large hospitals in Delhi, but today, 70% of patients are forced to seek treatment in private hospitals. The AQI once crossed 1200 and is still above 500. They promised a corruption-free Delhi but have themselves plunged into the depths of corruption,” he said.
The term of the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly ends on February 23 next year and polls are to be held before that.
The former Union minister also targeted the AAP and Kejriwal over education and health, alleging it failed to open new Mohalla Clinics and hospitals and did not use the Centre's funds to boost the city's healthcare infrastructure.
He charged that the smog tower in Connaught Place, which was supposed to provide relief from air pollution, was lying defunct although the AAP government spent crores of rupees on advertisement.
He cited water shortage, lack of sanitation, damaged roads, and other issues to corner the ruling AAP. Thakur also alleged that the AAP has been supporting "anti-national" forces and Kejriwal questioned India's surgical strikes. He said the party got the support of "Khalistanti elements" during the Punjab polls.
The BJP president added that Rs 52 crore was spent merely decorating Kejriwal’s “Sheesh Mahal,” not including the cost of the house. This is not a mansion but a museum of corruption.
Once a BJP government is formed, this museum will be opened to the public to reveal how Kejriwal squandered taxpayer money.
