AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, along with Chief Minister Atishi and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, on Monday launched the door-to-door registration for women and elderly citizens under the Delhi government's two financial aid schemes, ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana' and 'Sanjeevani Yojana’ respectively.
Under the Chief Minister's Mahila Samman Yojana, every woman in Delhi is entitled to receive Rs 2100 every month, and under the Sanjeevani Yojana, people aged above 60 years will be provided free treatment at all Delhi hospitals.
At 12 pm on Monday, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived at South Market in East Kidwai Nagar in New Delhi assembly, to start the registration drive for women with the AAP chief personally registering several women, matching their voter ID cards with the voter list on the Election Commission’s website.
While women listed as voters were immediately registered, and some women had voter ID cards but found their names missing from the voter list, those missing from the voter list couldn’t proceed. Assuring such women, Arvind Kejriwal assured them to have their names added to the voter list, enabling them to claim the scheme’s benefits, which are exclusively for Delhi residents with verified voter status.
Addressing the media after registering women for the scheme, Kejriwal stated, “Today, we have started this initiative in my constituency. CM Atishi and I have personally registered several women to begin this scheme.”
Kejriwal also emphasized the importance of the yellow registration card issued, urging women to preserve it carefully. “This is, in a way, a special card for women—a yellow card. Everyone must keep this yellow card safe,” he said, holding up the card as a symbol of empowerment.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Atishi tweeted, "A new era of women empowerment is beginning with the registration of 'Mahila Samman Yojana' in Delhi. Today, I registered the initial beneficiaries of this scheme with Arvind Kejriwal."
"Now, our sisters and daughters in Delhi will not have to depend on anyone for their small expenses because, with this scheme of Arvind Kejriwal ji, Rs 2100 will be credited to their accounts every month," she added.
The senior AAP leaders in also launched the registration process for the ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’ in Jangpura with the constituency’s candidate Manish Sisodia also visiting households in the area, reaching out to senior citizens.
Kejriwal also informed residents about the scheme, assisted with filling out registration forms, and handed over ‘Kejriwal Kavach Cards’ to newly registered participants. The card guarantees benefits under the Sanjeevani Yojana once AAP returns to power post the elections.
Talking to the media after the registration drive, he said said, “We conducted the registration of some senior citizens in the Jangpura constituency. The registration for the Mahila Samman Yojana and the Sanjeevani Yojana has begun today. We started the registration for Mahila Samman from the New Delhi constituency. Now, we have commenced the registration for the Sanjeevani Yojana in the Jangpura constituency. Here, we registered some senior citizens.”
He added that under the Sanjeevani Yojana, senior citizens above 60 years of age will have their medical expenses covered by the Delhi government, whether they get treated in government or private hospitals.
He stated that while all treatments in Delhi government hospitals are free, under the Sanjeevani Scheme, senior citizens will now be able to receive treatment in private hospitals as well, with all expenses covered by the Delhi government.
“Within just a few hours of its launch, approximately 2.5 lakh women had registered for the Mahila Samman Scheme. The registration process will continue until every household in Delhi has been covered. These two schemes will prove to be game changers in people’s lives,” he said.
