n Health insurance, monthly stipend and free bus rides for women allowance, free electricity, and a road map to make Delhi pollution free- these are among the key promises that the Delhi Congress is likely to announce in it ‘Nyay Patra’, which is expected to be released on Christmas ahead of the high octane Delhi assembly elections.
It is also expected that the party releases the second list of candidates for the elections in the next few days. “It is expected that either Rajesh Lilothia or Rajkumar Gautam will be made to contest from Seemapuri and will be announced in the second list,” the source said.
Lilothia is currently serving as the President of scheduled castes department in All India Congress Committee (AICC) and has been an MLA from Patel Nagar. Meanwhile, former Delhi Minister and Dalit leader Rajendra Pal Gautam quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and stepped down as the legislator of Seemapuri recently, following which he joined the Congress, saying he sought “to accelerate the struggle for social justice”.
According to sources in the party, in the Delhi Congress Manifesto Committee Meeting which was held on Monday, senior party leaders deliberated and approved the key points that they are going to promise to the people of Delhi in a bid to win the elections, slated to be held early next year.
Congress is going to make five to six big promises to the people of Delhi through its manifesto, a party source said. He added that on the lines of Rajasthan, the people of Delhi will also be promised health insurance of Rs 25 lakhs.
In an answer to the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ where the AAP government has promised to provide a monthly stipend of Rs 2,100 to women above the age of 18, the Congress will promise to provide Rs 3,000 per month to the women. The manifesto is also likely to promise 300 units of free electricity to the people of Delhi if the Congress makes a comeback in the elections and wins them.
Other promises include free bus service to women of Delhi and a road map to make the national Capital pollution free, the party source said, adding that Congress's manifesto for Delhi Assembly may be released in the next one or two days.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister over his remarks on B.R. Ambedkar and also announced that the party will organise protests across the different districts of Delhi in this regard.
