Punjab Raj Bhavan came alive with cultural pride and patriotism as Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday presided over the vibrant celebrations of Jharkhand’s 25th Foundation Day. The event paid homage to the state’s rich history and honoured the enduring legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, underscoring the cultural and historical significance of the day.
The program began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a solemn tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the legendary tribal leader who inspired the freedom movement. Governor Kataria lauded Munda as a symbol of courage and justice whose ideals remain deeply relevant. A message from Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar was also shared, along with a captivating video depicting Jharkhand’s history, culture, and traditions.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, a cultural performance showcased the vibrant folk music, dances, and traditions of Jharkhand, reflecting its artistic diversity and connection with nature. Samand from Jharkhand highlighted the state’s progress since its creation, emphasizing its cultural richness and economic growth.
Kataria, addressing the gathering, extended warm greetings to the people of Jharkhand, acknowledging the historic role of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the state's formation. “Atal Ji’s vision created a platform for Jharkhand’s tribal communities to preserve their cultural heritage and assert their rights,” he said.
He emphasized the enduring relevance of Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings of truth and service, drawing parallels between the Sikh tradition of ‘langar pratha’ and tribal values of collectivism and harmony with nature. He hailed the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a catalyst for fostering cultural unity across India.
The Governor highlighted Jharkhand’s transformation since November 15, 2000. Known as the “land of forests”, the state has made remarkable strides in education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure. He praised its heroes, including Tilka Manjhi, Sidhu-Kanhu, and Albert Ekka, and celebrated contributions from luminaries such as President Droupadi Murmu and cricket icon MS Dhoni.
Governor Kataria commended recent tribal welfare projects worth Rs 6,640 crore launched under PM Modi’s leadership, including Eklavya Model Residential Schools and the Rs 80,000 crore “Dharti Aaba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan” to uplift tribal villages.
Concluding his address, Kataria expressed optimism for Jharkhand’s future, saying, “With the determination and unity of its people, Jharkhand will shine as one of India’s leading states.”
