PGV hails Cong, SP workers for working against all odds

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Thursday, hailed the people of Uttar Pradesh, saying they gave a solid message to the whole country of saving the Constitution and re-establishing the old ideal that public issues are paramount.

She also congratulated Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple on their victories.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance suffered a jolt in Uttar Pradesh, where it won just 36 Lok Sabha seats as against the 43  bagged by the INDIA bloc -- a significant contribution to the overall tally of the opposition alliance.

In a post in Hindi on X, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “My salute to all my colleagues of UP Congress. I saw you working hard in the sun and dust, you did not bow down, you did not stop, you showed courage to fight in the toughest of times.”

“Atrocities were committed against you, fake cases were filed against you, you were put in jail, you were repeatedly put under house arrest but you did not get scared. Many leaders left in fear, you stood firm,” she said.

Priyanka Gandhi further said she was proud of the vigilant people of Uttar Pradesh, who understood the depth and truth of this country and gave a solid message to the whole of India of saving the Constitution.

“You have re-established an old ideal in today’s politics -- that the issues of the people are paramount, the price of ignoring them is heavy,” she said.

The election is of the people, the people fight it and the people win, Priyanka Gandhi added.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi also congratulated Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav, as well as SP and Congress workers, on SP winning more seats in UP.

In another message on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra congratulated Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav and party workers for the results of UP. “Even in dire circumstances, Congress and SP have fought a historic election battle together. During the election campaign, SP and Congress workers have worked very hard. They have taken the issues of the public to every household. Along with this, they have also raised the voice of social justice and the Constitution,” she said.

Priyanka further wrote that despite all the threats in the elections, the workers stood at the booth as the sentinels of democracy. “Due to this hard work, unity and our commitment to the issues, the people of UP have shown trust. Thanks to everyone for this,” she said.

Priyanka also added the slogan ‘Jai Janata’ and ‘Jai Samvidhan’ in the congratulatory message to Akhilesh and Dimple.

After the results of the Lok Sabha elections, the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) may not be seen forming the government, but the enthusiasm of the leaders of the INDIA bloc parties is high. All the parties of the INDIA bloc have performed much better than the last election. This time the Samajwadi Party has got 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Congress has won the election on six seats. For the Congress, coming back in Amethi seat is a matter of great joy and celebration, while for the SP, defeating BJP candidate Lallu Singh in Faizabad Lok Sabha seat is a matter of much discussion in the political circles.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal contested the elections together. Then the Mahagathbandhan got 15 seats. Akhilesh Yadav’s SP got five seats, while BSP got a big advantage and it won 10 seats. In 2019, Congress contested the Lok Sabha elections alone in Uttar Pradesh. Then Congress suffered a bad defeat. Congress had fielded its candidates on 70 seats in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 69 of its candidates, including Rahul Gandhi from Amethi, lost the elections. Congress won only the Rae Bareli seat from where Sonia Gandhi was the candidate.
