Normal life disrupted with incessant heavy rains

Saturday, 03 August 2024 | PNS | Bhopal

Heavy rains continue in Bhopal. It has been raining intermittently since Thursday night, several areas were submerged and roads were water logged.

Due to rain, the condition of roads in many areas of the city has deteriorated due to which people are having a lot of trouble commuting, especially the condition was bad at Sindhi Colony, Chhola Pulia, Nadara Bus Stand etc., people had to struggle a lot in commuting here.

On the other hand, on Friday morning, Upper Lake was full and the gates of Bhadbhada Dam had to be opened, 5 out of 11 gates had been opened in the afternoon.

At the same time, all 13 sluice gates of Kaliyasot Dam have been opened. Upper Lake, Bhadbhada and Kaliyasot Dam are connected to each other, 4 out of 8 gates of Kolar Dam near Bhopal have also been opened. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of heavy rain in Bhopal today.

By 3.30 pm, all 13 gates of Kaliyasot Dam were opened. Dam in-charge Nitin Kuhikar said that the water level in the dam is being maintained at 503.4 meters. Therefore, after maintaining this much water, the rest of the water is being released through the gate. Kerwa Dam is currently about 30 percent empty.

After the rain, the condition of the main road from Ashok Garden police station, 80 feet road to Semra has become worse. This is the condition of ward 38 where the road is already covered with potholes.

Apart from this, the condition of the roads of Qazi Camp, Bairagarh, Aishbagh, Bharat Talkies etc. is also bad.

The Saifia College Road, which fills up like a pond during normal rains, has not been flooded with rainwater this time. This is probably the first time that despite the continuous rain in Bhopal since last night, there has been no waterlogging on Saifia College Road.

Shopkeepers in the vicinity said that it did rain for more than 10 hours but due to slow rain, the water did not fill up, if it had been heavy, it would have filled up immediately. At the same time, waterlogging occurred at many places in the 11 mile area. Apart from this, the tractor agency also got flooded.

The Sindhi Colony intersection in old Bhopal has been flooded with 1 feet of water since the last 30 hours. Due to this, the drivers passing through here are facing problems, apart from them, the patients of a private hospital built on the roadside are facing a lot of problems. The reason for this is that one feet of water has accumulated on the road right in front of the hospital.

On the road from Nadra bus stand to the station, the movement of vehicles was very less, here more than 2 feet of water was filled on the road, in which mostly heavy vehicles were seen passing, apart from this, water filled in front of Nadra bus stand as well. Due to which people coming and going to the bus stand building had to use the back road.

Due to the filling of drain water here, the condition was also bad due to the smell.

Earlier, Bhopal received 3.4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. It has been raining in Bhopal since Thursday, which continued till Friday afternoon. Bhopal has received 28.25 inches of rain so far, which is more than 70 percent of the season. Due to heavy rains in the catchment area and the Kolans river flowing above the level, the big pond got full. At 9.10 am, Mayor Malti Rai, MIC member Ravindra Yati opened a gate after performing puja. By 12 noon, 5 gates were opened. The Ghunsi river is also in spate due to rain. The water released from Bhadbhada dam reached Kaliyasot dam. Due to this, its gates also had to be opened one by one. 13 gates of the dam are open.
