NIT’s IAC-2024 Conclave aims to bridge industry-academia gap

Friday, 15 November 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur is set to host the second Industry-Academia Conclave (IAC-2024) from November 15 to 17, an event aimed at advancing collaboration between academia and industry under the visionary theme “Viksit Bharat - Viksit Jharkhand: 2047.” Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Governor, will inaugurate the three-day event, expected to set a significant milestone in India’s path toward industrial self-reliance and sustainable development.

In this edition, NIT Jamshedpur joins hands with academic partners such as IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, IIT Patna, and NITs across Mizoram, Raipur, Agartala, Manipur, and Nagaland. The conclave has also attracted major industrial players like Tata Steel, NTPC, ONGC, Power Grid Corporation, and Coal India, among others. Notably, banks including SBI, Canara Bank, and HDFC, along with publishers like Elsevier and Springer-Nature, are backing the event.

Focusing on bridging gaps between academic research and industrial needs, IAC-2024 will foster discussions on topics like renewable energy integration, robotics, IoT, digital twins in manufacturing, and sustainable mining practices. Notably, there will be discussions on converting waste into resources through IoT, promoting Jharkhand’s artisan heritage, and creating support frameworks for MSMEs through industry-academia partnerships.

The event will host competitions and workshops to inspire future innovators. Over 300 students will participate in a model-making contest, with a prize pool of Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, a month-long hackathon in electronics, drawing around 1,600 participants, will culminate in the announcement of three winners on November 17.

Through IAC-2024, NIT Jamshedpur and its partners aim to pave the way for a future where academia and industry work hand-in-hand to tackle India's most pressing challenges. The insights, partnerships, and projects initiated at this conclave are anticipated to contribute significantly to India’s industrial and academic landscape, setting a foundation for sustainable development by 2047.

NIT Jamshedpur, Dr. Goutam Sutradhar said that this conclave symbolizes a commitment to “Viksit Bharat - Viksit Jharkhand,” reflecting the aspirations of a nation moving confidently toward its centennial anniversary as a leader in innovation and development. By focusing on practical collaborations, entrepreneurship, and cutting-edge research, IAC-2024 stands as a transformative event, reinforcing the role of industry-academia partnerships in shaping a prosperous future.
