Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar congratulated and wished all the scientists, officers and personnel for their continuous dedication and services at the 150th year celebration of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) held at Ranchi Smart City Auditorium today. Appreciating their dedication and technological advancement, he said that the Indian Meteorological Department has not only reduced the impact of disasters with its accurate predictions and technical capabilities, but has also made significant contributions in various sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, climate change and national security.
The Governor said that the efforts of the Meteorological Department and Meteorological Center, Ranchi have played an important role in reducing the effects of severe natural disasters such as lightning, floods, heavy rainfall and cold wave in the state. He said that the confidence of the public towards the Meteorological Center has increased, as it has strengthened disaster management by providing accurate weather forecasts and information up to the Panchayat level. Timely weather warnings were given in the state, which helped local communities and disaster management teams to get effective assistance.
Referring to the agricultural economy of Jharkhand, the Governor said that accurate weather information is of utmost importance for the agriculture sector. He said that weather forecast helps farmers in taking important decisions like crop selection, irrigation management and pest control. The Governor also informed that Jharkhand has received the 'Krishi Karman Award', which reflects the agricultural excellence of the state and the credit for this goes to the continuous efforts of the farmers of the state.
The Governor also mentioned the remarkable progress made in the country in the field of climate change and disaster management under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that initiatives like 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' have strengthened the technical capabilities, which are directly benefiting the meteorology and disaster management sectors. He also said that through these efforts, timely weather information can be obtained and society can be protected from the effects of climate change.
The Governor appreciated the continuous dedication and efforts of the scientists, officers and personnel of the Meteorological Center, Ranchi, who are continuously engaged in broadcasting weather forecasts. This ensures that timely information and warnings reach the concerned stakeholders, so that the impact of disasters can be reduced. The Governor appealed to all stakeholders in the sector to maintain cooperation and coordination, so that the impact of disasters can be reduced and the society can be better prepared for disaster management.
