Major Administrative Overhaul in Punjab, 38 IAS, 1 PCS Transferred

In a sweeping administrative reshuffle, Punjab Government on Thursday transferred and issued posting orders of 38 IAS officers and one PCS officer, including Deputy Commissioners of 10 districts and commissioners of four Municipal Corporations.  

Among the notable changes, Showkat Ahmad Parray has been moved from Patiala to Bathinda as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC), while IAS officer Sakshi Sahney will take over as the Amritsar DC, with Ropar’s outgoing DC Preeti Yadav is now assigned to Patiala. Jitendra Jorwal will be the new DC of Ludhiana.  

Other significant appointments include Rajesh Dhiman, who transitions from Ferozepur to Nawanshahr; and Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, who will now oversee Fazilka. Himanshu Jain is set to replace Preeti Yadav as the DC of Ropar, and Sona Thind has been appointed as the DC of Fatehgarh Sahib. Sandeep Rishi will assume the role of DC in Sangrur.  

The reshuffle extends to the Municipal Corporations as well. Patiala’s Municipal Corporation will now be led by Rajat Oberoi, who is also the president of the PCS Officers’ Association. T Benith has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Mohali MC, Aaditya Dachalwal will oversee Ludhiana MC, and Gulpreet Singh Aulakh will head Amritsar MC.  

Several senior officers have been assigned new roles. Krishan Kumar now holds the charge of the Additional Chief Secretary of Taxation Department, previously managed by Vikas Pratap — who will now hold the charge of Additional Chief Secretary (Excise). Alok Shekhar has been appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary for Prisons, while Ravi Bhagat, the Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, will handle the Public Works Department (PWD).  

Gurpreet Singh Khaira has been designated as the Director of Local Government, and Anindita Mitra, returning from her deputation in Chandigarh, has been appointed as Secretary for Cooperation along with the charge of Punjab State Cooperative Bank managing director. Priyank Bharti, formerly heading PWD, will now oversee the Science, Technology, and Environment Department as administrative secretary.  

The Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department has seen a leadership change with Malwinder Singh Jaggi as the new Secretary, along with his previous departments of Information and public relations, and civil aviation; while Amrit Singh has been given additional charge of the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Director. Paramjit Singh has been appointed Director of the Rural Development Department, while Jaspreet Singh will take on the role of State Transport Commissioner. Varjeet Singh Walia has been introduced to the Chief Minister’s Office as the Additional Principal Secretary.  

The services of Fazilka DC Senu Duggal has been placed at the disposal of Cooperation Department for posting as Sugarfed managing director.  

As per the orders, 1999-batch Ajoy Sharma will continue to work as Financial Commissioner Forests and Wildlife Preservation in addition to Principal Secretary Governance Reforms and public grievances. A 2000-batch Rahul Tiwari will continue to work as Administrative Secretary (Housing and Urban Development) in addition to Power.  

Gurkirat Singh Kirpal, 2001-batch IAS, will also continue to work as Administrative Secretary of Home Affairs, in addition to Mines and Geology, and Gurudwara Elections commissioner.
