Kids and teenagers now have access to recreational facilities in a natural environment as Delhi Lt Governor(LG)Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday inaugurated Children’s Play Area at Baansera. Spread across two hectares, the play area has been developed by Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which has also developed Baansera at the unique bamboo-theme ecological park, on the banks of Yamuna.
Saxena, during his recent visits to Baansera, had asked DDA to develop Children’s Play Area as large number of children visit the place every day. This play area is designed to engage children of all age group with its multiple attractions and features.
The highlight of the children play area include fitness zone, which promotes physical activity, play mound and climbing wall. For those seeking adventure, the adventure trail offers a stimulating journey through various obstacles.
Younger children can enjoy the sand pit, perfect for creative play, while the multi-play structure caters to a variety of activities, allowing kids to climb and explore. The spider web provides an exciting challenge for older kids to test their agility, and a charming wooden train designed for toddlers offers a safe and engaging space for younger visitors.
The design of the play zone emphasizes both fun and physical development, offering a well-rounded experience for children to explore, play, and learn in a safe and stimulating environment.
Inaugurating the part, Saxena said the children in big cities do not get much opportunities to play in a natural environment. So, it has been our endeavour to provide them such facilities. We would continue to develop many such venues in Delhi to promote Green Delhi and Fit Delhi.
Besides, he also inaugurated a 2 MW capacity Solar Power Plant in the Baansera Park to bolster the renewable energy infrastructure in the Capital. The solar park spread over 20,000 sqm area, built on a RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model, will provide DDA with solar power at a fixed tariff of Rs 4.42 per unit for 25 years.
The project is anticipated to generate approximately 27 lakh units of electricity annually. With zero installation and O&M cost for DDA, the project is expected to benefit nearly 144 parks under the group net metering policy. The solar park will not only contribute to the national renewable energy targets but also serve as a model for other urban development authorities to adopt clean energy solutions.
To enhance the ecological character of Yamuna floodplains and make it more people-friendly by making it attractive as a recreational and cultural venue, the LG had laid the foundation of ‘Baansera’ in August 2022 and the same was developed in a record time of just six months.
More than 25,000 special variety of Bamboo saplings, brought from Assam were planted here. Baansera aims at providing the people of Delhi with the much needed public spaces in the Capital on one hand, and also ensure that the rich biodiversity of the flood plane is preserved and maintained. DDA’s well-known projects for restoration and rejuvenation of the floodplains of River Yamuna are being carried out as an initiative to enhance the ecological character of the floodplains and to make them accessible to the public at large.
