Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of promptly informing the police in cases of digital arrest or other cyber crimes. He stated that awareness, courage in facing cyber fraudsters, and swift police action are essential to prevent these crimes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also making efforts to raise awareness on this issue. In his recent Mann Ki Baat program, the Prime Minister advised against fear of digital arrest, urging people to pause, think, and take action for protection. Yadav shared these insights with the media during a visit to the State Cyber Police Headquarters. Notably, on November 9, the Cyber Police acted immediately in the case of a digital arrest involving a resident of Arera Colony, Bhopal, conducting a live raid to rescue the individual and prevent cyber fraud amounting to crores of rupees. Yadav visited the headquarters to commend the state's Cyber Police. This case is likely one of the first live raids in response to a digital arrest in both the country and the world.
Yadav appreciated the efficiency and prompt action of the Cyber Police. Yadav praised DGP Sudhir Saxena, Additional Director General of Police Yogesh Deshmukh, DIG Cyber Cell Yusuf Qureshi and Sub Inspector Cyber Sachin Yadav who quickly reached the spot.
Yadav praised the promptness shown by the police team in cyber crime and described it as exemplary and inspiring.
Yadav said that the people are often unaware of the proceedings of CBI, ED, etc., and cunning criminals trap such people. Madhya Pradesh Police came into action as soon as the information was received and took concrete action and set an example to the country and the world in this case of cyber fraud through digital arrest. If timely information is given to the police and prompt action is taken, crime can be avoided and such criminals can also be caught. We are proud of the police officers and employees. Yadav also talked to Rajeev Oberoi, who gave information to the police, on mobile.
Yadav said that work is going on to make cyber police hi-tech in the state. Along with starting cyber police station in every district, cyber desk is being established in every police station of the state. Cyber helpline number 1930 will also be made more effective. By running a large-scale cyber awareness campaign in the state, information about measures to prevent cyber crime will be given to the people.
The Chief Minister said that cyber crimes and complaints are increasing every year. In the year 2019, approximately four thousand complaints were received, whereas in the year 2024, approximately five lakh complaints have been received so far. About 24 thousand police officers, judicial officers and public prosecution officers were trained through 259 training programmes in the last five years for prevention of cyber crimes.
In the last five years, about 31 lakh citizens including students were made aware through cyber awareness programmes. Cyber Police has been regularly issuing advisories related to fraud in the name of electricity bill payment and custom duty, pension fraud, online telegram task and digital arrest. The state government has also received awards at the national level for awareness regarding the prevention of cyber crimes.
