In a major move to improve the quality of education in Himachal Pradesh, the State Government has commenced the construction of six Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools. These schools will cater to 1,000 students each, from pre-primary to Class XII, and are being built in Nagrota Bagwan, Jwalamukhi, Fatehpur, Palampur, Jai Singhpur — all in Kangra district), and Bhoranj constituency in Hamirpur district. The state government has also approved architectural plans for an additional 10 schools across the State.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while laying the foundation for these schools, highlighted the Government’s commitment to providing high-quality education. “These schools will be equipped with modern facilities, including smart classrooms, sports grounds, indoor stadiums, and swimming pools, elevating the standard of government educational institutions and inspiring rural students to face life’s challenges,” he said.

In addition to the construction of these schools, the State Government has declared 100 government high schools, 200 senior secondary schools, 48 colleges, and two Sanskrit colleges as ‘Centers of Excellence’ to further enhance educational standards.

Sukhu also emphasized the government’s focus on sports as a means of promoting a healthy lifestyle and keeping children away from drug abuse. The government has increased the diet money for students participating in sports competitions. For zonal and district-level events, the amount has been raised from Rs 120 to Rs 400, while for national competitions, it has been increased from Rs 250 to Rs 500.

“These modern facilities and our focused efforts on education and sports will significantly enhance the overall learning environment and provide better opportunities for students across the state,” said Sukhu.
