MC Chandigarh takes possession of 9 defaulting Taxi Stands 


Chandigarh: Taking strict action against 9 taxi stands in the city, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on Wednesday took their possession for failing to pay pending dues amounting to Rs. 1.12 crores. Following the orders of MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, the team of engineering wing took physical possession of 9 defaulting taxi stands in the city, which have failed to deposit the dues even after repeated reminders and notices pasted on the pre-fabricated structures of each taxi stand giving time till June 25.  MC Commissioner briefed that after sending pendency notices to 59 taxi stands, MC has recovered an amount of pending dues amounting to Rs. 4.21 crores out of total outstanding amount of about Rs. 5.34 crores. 


Hry Govt plans to set up a Directorate of Land Management

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad on Wednesday chaired the seventh Steering Committee meeting of the Haryana State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). The committee approved the Annual Plan of Operation of Rs. 125.68 crore under CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority). The Chief Secretary said that the State Government is planning to set up a Directorate of Land Management. The Directorate will also aim to identify land for compulsory Afforestation. Under this annual plan, Compensatory Afforestation (CA), Additional Compensatory Afforestation (ACA), and Penal Compensatory Afforestation (PCA) will be carried out over an area of 748.36 hectares during the year 2024-25 under which over 7.52 lakh saplings will be planted.

Programme for ‘Schedule for Second Special Summary Revision of photo electoral roll’ released

Chandigarh: Haryana Additional Chief Electoral Officer Hema Sharma on Wednesday said that the Chief Electoral Officer’s office aimed to prepare an error-free and accurate photo voter list, as only individuals whose names are on the voter list can exercise their vote in elections. Sharma was presiding over a review meeting with representatives of political parties regarding election preparations in view of the upcoming assembly elections. She urged the representatives of political parties to review the voter list as soon as the consolidated draft voter list is published on July 25. If any discrepancies are found, such as an eligible voter's name not being on the list, the name of a deceased person being on the list, or the name of someone who has moved away, they should fill out the prescribed forms 6, 7, and 8 and submit them to the BLO through their booth-level agent or any other official.

Hry CS reviews flood control works with DCs

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad on Wednesday chaired a meeting today through Video Conferencing with all Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to review flood control preparations across the state ahead of the monsoon season. He reiterated the state government's commitment to preventing incidents of water logging and ensuring public safety. During the meeting, Chief Secretary Prasad directed officials to expedite cleaning of drains and channels statewide before the onset of monsoon rains. He emphasized the urgent need to identify vulnerable areas and deploy essential equipment such as pumping machines and generators to mitigate potential flooding risks. Prasad underscored that officers must ensure these measures are implemented effectively and maintained in operational condition.

 

Punjab Governor Purohit calls on Prime Minister in New Delhi

Chandigarh:  The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi  in New Delhi on Wednesday. According to a statement, the Governor apprised the Prime Minister about the important issues of Punjab and Chandigarh. The meeting took place at the New Parliament Building.

15 candidates in fray for Jalandhar West By-Election

 

Jalandhar: For the Jalandhar West Assembly by-election on July 10, Amit Kumar (independent) has withdrawn his nomination, leaving 15 candidates in the fray. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal stated that after the withdrawal of nominations, the remaining 15 candidates include independent candidates Raj Kumar, Inderjit Singh, Vishal, Ajay Kumar Bhagat, Neetu, Ajay, Varun Kaler, Aarti, and Deepak Bhagat, along with Sheetal Angural from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sarabjit Singh from the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Binder Kumar from the BSP, Mahinderpal from the Aam Aadmi Party, Surinder Kaur from the Indian National Congress, and Surjit Kaur from the Shiromani Akali Dal. He added that 1,71,482 voters are set to cast their votes at 181 polling booths.

 

UDID cards issued to 3,44,472 divyangs in Punjab

 

Chandigarh: Fulfilling its commitment to the welfare of divyang persons, PUnjab Givernment has issued 3,44,472 UDID cards to Divyang persons in the state till April 2024. The state’s Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Wednesday said that to give the benefits of all the schemes and services of the Centre and Punjab Government to the divyang persons on the basis of one card, Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) is generated and its database is being prepared at national level and being issued by setting up camps in 102 hospitals of the state under the UDID project. “Out of the applications received on the portal — www.swavlambancard.gov.in, 3,44,572 UDID cards have been issued to the eligible Divyang persons till April 2024,” she added.

 

105 Nanak Bagichis and 25 pavittar van operationalized in Punjab

 

Chandigarh: Under the Greening Punjab Mission, as many as 105 Nanak Bagichis and 25 Pavittar Van have been operationalized in the state in the current year. During 2023-24, the state’s Forest and Wildlife Preservation Department has planted 44 lakh saplings under various schemes on the 5740 hectare area, besides engaging in the task of planting at least three saplings per tubewell under Punjab Haryaval Lehar at approximately 44 lakh tubewells in the State. In the present year, 8.31 lakh saplings have been planted at 4.60 lakh tubewells.

 

Will strongly raise voice in Parliament against Centre for deliberately withholding state’s funds: Hayer

 

Chandigarh: Alleging the BJP led Central Government for working under political conspiracy to damage the financial interests of Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party’s MP from Sangrur Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Wednesday said that he will strongly raise the issues of not releasing Rural Development Fund (RDF) and Mandi Development Fund (MDF) around Rs 7000 crore and deliberately withholding funds for Punjab under National Health Mission, Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyaan and other central schemes by the Centre in the current Parliament session. Hayer said that he will raise his voice against the Centre’s attack on financial rights of Punjab till the state gets justice.
