Rs 5.17-cr ‘Best School Award’ distributed to Punjab’s 69 schools

Chandigarh: Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday distributed ‘Best School Award’, worth Rs 5.17 crores, to 69 schools across the state. During the event, schools from senior secondary, high, and middle categories from each district of the state were given cash prize worth Rs 10 lakhs, Rs 7.5 lakhs, and Rs five lakhs respectively. These state government schools have been selected from each district on the basis of academic and co-educational parameters.

Punjab VB nabs Food and Civil Supplies inspector for Rs 90k bribe

Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday apprehended Food and Civil Supplies Department’s inspector Amandeep Gupta for demanding a bribe of Rs 90,000. Spokesperson said that the accused inspector has been arrested following a complaint lodged by Jarnail Singh, a resident of Diamond Tower, Kharar, on the Chief Minister Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that the accused demanded Rs 90,000 in lieu of renewal of licence and change of ownership of brickkiln purchased by him. He added that earlier, Chaman Gupta, the then Inspector, Rupnagar, had taken Rs 30,000 from him and his brother Harjit Singh for the same work but he had been transferred to SBS Nagar district.


CDS founder selected expert lead for Worldskills Skill Management Team

Chandigarh: Indian Industrial Design Technology (IDT) expert Vineet Raj Kapoor has been selected as Expert Lead for Worldskills Skill Management Team. Kapoor is Chandigarh Design School Founder, and SXILL Cofounder. He was selected as India’s Expert in 2022 and had selected and trained India’s Competitors for the Worldskills 2023. These competitors came from NID Ahmedabad, MIT Pune and other colleges of India. Kapoor continues to help Indiaskills find India’s best design talents in IDT, by helping design and conduct tests as well as train students.

Over 100 HR professionals attend regional conference on labour laws

Chandigarh: National Institute of Personnel Management NIPM, Punjab Chapter — a not-for-profit premier body dedicated to the development of Human Resource (HR) professionals — on Tuesday organized a day’s workshop on ‘Statutory compliances under Labour legislation covering new Labour codes and Misconduct in employment and disciplinary procedures’, at PHD Chamber House, Chandigarh. The objective of the program was to provide a platform for HR professionals to interact with Central and State government authorities seeking clarifications and preparing for the hassle-free implementation of New Labour Codes as and when the Government announced its implementation. The program was well attended by more than 100 HR and Industrial Relations (IR) professionals across the industries from PSUs, Pharma, IT, Health care, and other industries from the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and UT Chandigarh.

Three Private Bank officials among four arrested for cyber fraud in Hry

Chandigarh: Tightening the noose on cyber criminals, the Haryana Police on Tuesday arrested four persons including an assistant manager and two deputy managers of a Private Bank in Gurugram. These accused had allegedly collaborated with cybercriminals, sharing personal information related to bank accounts. The police team has recovered two mobile phones from the possession of the accused, said Haryana Police. The Police spokesperson said that at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Manesar, Gurugram, a person registered a written complaint stating that on November 18, 2023, he received a call from someone claiming to be his friend Devendra. The caller informed the complainant that his son was admitted to the hospital and requested a transfer of Rs 10,000 for treatment. The complainant transferred the amount but later realized he had been deceived. Subsequently, Case was registered under relevant sections at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Manesar, Gurugram. Acting on the complaint, Inspector Sandeep Ahlawat, Manager of the Cyber Crime Police Station in Manesar, Gurugram, led the team and arrested the four accused involved in providing bank accounts in the incident.
