Haryana poll results on Tuesday saw Delhi BJP congratulating people of its neighbouring state for voting the party to power for the third consecutive term. However, ecstasy turned into agony for the Congress as the celebratory mood at the AICC headquarters in the morning changed into a sombre environment by noon as the trends for the Haryana assembly elections came in showing that the party was headed for a shock defeat.
As counting began, early trends showed that the Congress seemed on track to score a big win in the Haryana polls, as predicted also by exit polls. Party workers were seen bursting crackers and distributing 'jalebis' and 'laddoos' at the AICC headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, here. Drumbeats reverberated at the grand old party's headquarters around nine am when trends showed that it was racing ahead.
However, post 10 AM, as the trends showed the BJP clawing its way back into the contest, the headquarters bore a sombre look with the 'dhols' and sweets disappearing from the scene. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva congratulated the people of Haryana for once again choosing the BJP, which represents development, for the third time. He stated that for the past 10 years, Congress has been dreaming of winning Haryana by associating it with a particular caste. However, the progressive people of Haryana have once again rejected Congress's caste-based politics.
The people of Haryana have neither forgotten nor will they forget the corruption during the Bhupinder Singh Hooda regime ten years ago, as well as the land scam involving Congress party leader Robert Vadra, Sachdeva said. Congress’s defeat in Haryana was sealed the day Rahul Gandhi, during the election campaign, sold the dream of setting up a jalebi factory, he said.
South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that this is a big example of the victory of development and public welfare policies. BJP has done another miracle in the politics of the country. Bidhuri said that the people of Haryana have risen above casteism and slapped narrow politics hard. “Like Haryana, the people of Delhi will also prove that Arvind Kejriwal is a big dishonest person by not voting for him,” he added.
While the people of Haryana have rejected Congress's dirty politics, they have also completely rejected Arvind Kejriwal, who is deceiving the people in the name of governance in Delhi and Punjab.
On one side of Haryana is Kejriwal-governed Delhi, and on the other side is Punjab. Despite pouring the proceeds from the liquor scam and both these governments’ resources, Kejriwal still could not open the account for Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana.
Kejriwal tried to sell Haryana the same false dreams of development as he did in Delhi and Punjab, but the people saw through his real face and defeated him in such a way that the result shows Kejriwal could not even compete with NOTA, Sachdeva said. He said Haryana has given zero in 2024, and in 2025, Delhi will also bring Kejriwal to zero.
As regards Congress, its leaders were seen giving media bytes at various places at the headquarters, arguing that the trends would change by one pm but it did not happen. The Congress canteen was bustling as usual but an air of disappointment was writ large on the faces of party leaders and workers there.
A canteen worker lamented that they had prepared special dishes such as 'pakoris' and 'puris' but there were hardly any takers due to the turn of events in the Haryana polls.
Soon, the AICC headquarter bore a deserted look with only media personnel and a few party leaders hanging around. Some party workers were heard blaming EVMs for the loss, some blamed ticket distribution while others were reeling under the imminent 'shock defeat'. "We can't believe what has happened. There was so much anti-incumbency on the ground. This is a very surprising result," a party worker said.
