BJP, Congress two sides of same coin: Mayawati on Shah’s Ambedkar remark

Monday, 23 December 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

The political battle over the statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha continued on Sunday when Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati targeted both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.

The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said that Congress and BJP are two sides of the same coin when it comes to doing selfish politics by exploiting the votes of his followers in the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

BSP chief Mayawati stated on Sunday that people across the country are angry over the disrespect shown by Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament.

However, Congress’s impatience over this is nothing but pure deception and selfish politics, she added.

Mayawati made several posts one after the other on the social media platform X.

She wrote, “There is a lot of anger among the people of the country over the disrespect shown to the most revered Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar by Amit Shah in Parliament. But the haste of the Congress party, which has always neglected and hurt his legacy and his struggle in the interest of the country, regarding this is pure deception and politics of selfishness.”

In another post, the BSP supremo wrote, “Congress and BJP, etc are two sides of the same coin when it comes to doing selfish politics with the votes of his followers in the name of Baba Saheb. All the parties are engaged in a conspiracy to hurt the BSP and stop the caravan of self-respect of Baba Saheb from moving forward.”

In her final post, Mayawati targeted the Samajwadi Party (SP) and said, “In reality, great saints, gurus, and great men born in the Bahujan Samaj, including Baba Saheb, got full respect and honour only in the BSP government, which these casteist parties cannot digest. Especially the SP, out of malice, even changed the names of new districts, new institutions, and public welfare schemes, etc.”

Meanwhile, the BSP has already announced a nationwide protest on December 24 against the remarks made by Shah on Dr Ambedkar.

Mayawati has called Shah’s statement against the sentiments of the people and demanded its withdrawal.

BSP Lucknow district president Shailendra said that a one-day dharna demonstration will be organised from 9 am to 5 pm on December 24.

This demonstration will be held at the BSP office located at Mall Avenue and Sarojininagar.

After the demonstration, a memorandum addressed to the President on behalf of the party will be submitted to the DM office. Mayawati said that Dr Ambedkar was the creator of a humanitarian and welfare Constitution to protect the rights and dignity of Dalits, deprived, and other backward classes. Insulting him hurts the sentiments of the people.

Mayawati further said that Dalits and Bahujans had to struggle hard to stand on their feet and live with self-respect, and for this, Dr Ambedkar secured reservation and many legal rights.

“In the absence of Baba Saheb, the welfare and well-being of his followers is his true tribute, and the BSP is dedicated to this work,” she said.

She said that if parties like Congress and BJP cannot respect Dr Ambedkar from their heart, at least they should not disrespect him.

“It is because of Baba Saheb’s struggle that the SC, ST, and OBC classes got rights in the Constitution, and this is equal to attaining heaven for seven lifetimes for them,” she added.
