Ballot fervour sweeps across constituencies, 64.78% polls in East Singhbhum

Thursday, 14 November 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The voting process in East Singhbhum’s six assembly constituencies concluded on a positive note, with District Election Officer Ananya Mittal announcing a peaceful and orderly electoral day. At a press conference held in the Sales Tax Bhawan Auditorium, Mittal commended the collaborative efforts of election staff, security personnel, and the residents for a successful election. Present alongside Mittal were the Returning Officers (ROs) of each constituency, underscoring the collective effort involved in the election management.

By 5 p.m., the overall voting percentage for Jamshedpur stood at 64.78%, with crowds of voters still queued at various polling booths, indicating a late surge in voter turnout. Election officials ensured that anyone in line by the cutoff time was permitted to vote, providing every eligible voter the opportunity to participate.

“Voting was conducted in a peaceful, independent, transparent, and fear-free environment across all constituencies,” stated Mittal, expressing satisfaction with the process’s integrity and efficiency. He added that every measure was taken to maintain the highest standards of electoral conduct, creating a safe atmosphere that encouraged citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

Each of the six assembly constituencies showed substantial voter engagement, reflecting varied levels of enthusiasm among the public. The breakdown of turnout by constituency was as follows: Baharagora (44): 76.15%, Ghatshila (45): 70.05%, Potka (46): 72.29%, Jugsalai (47): 64.53%, Jamshedpur East (48): 56.72% and Jamshedpur West (49): 55.95%

Notably, Baharagora led with the highest turnout at 76.15%, while Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West showed relatively lower turnouts of 56.72% and 55.95%, respectively. The enthusiastic participation in Baharagora, Ghatshila, and Potka demonstrated a keen voter interest, while other constituencies maintained a steady and significant turnout.

The day’s peaceful nature was attributed to stringent security arrangements and efficient on-ground management. Each polling station was under strict surveillance, with personnel ensuring compliance with all rules and creating a welcoming environment for voters. No major incidents were reported across the constituencies, with Election Officer Mittal emphasizing that the administration’s primary focus was maintaining a safe, transparent, and smooth process.

In his closing remarks, Mittal expressed gratitude towards the residents of Jamshedpur for their active participation and adherence to the guidelines, saying, “The people of Jamshedpur have shown exemplary civic responsibility today, contributing to the health of our democracy. This turnout is a testament to the citizens' faith in the democratic process.” He also extended his appreciation to all election workers, security forces, and local volunteers who had been crucial in facilitating the voting process across the city’s diverse constituencies.
