In the context of National Education Policy-2020, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) labs are being established in the state with the aim of developing digital literacy among the students studying in government schools. So far 3390 ICT labs have been established in the state. Under this scheme of the Central Government, computer labs are being established in the school. The work of setting up computer labs through the School Education Department is being carried out by the districts in a decentralized manner.
An integrated monitoring system has been developed in the Vimarsh portal for regular monitoring and monthly review of activities of ICT labs. Skills related to digital literacy have become essential in today's technological era. In this field students can have good career options in future. Keeping this in mind, the syllabus related to the teaching of ICT lab has been determined. ICT related content has been prepared for students of class 6 to 12. Through ICT lab, students are also getting training to use computers, internet and other digital tools, which has enhanced the interest of students and teachers towards ICT.
Emphasis on digital literacy in government schools
Continuous efforts are being made by the School Education Department to improve the educational quality in government schools in the state. In this work, many voluntary organisations are helping the state government in the implementation of education related schemes. One such organisation is Shriram Fiber Foundation (SRF).
Placement of 700 youths
Basic Electrician Training Centres are being run in Bhind and Dhar districts. In these centres, youth above 18 years of age are participating in a 4-month electric related course. Electric kits are also being provided on completion of the course. So far, more than 1200 youths have been given electric training through these centres. The Foundation has also arranged for the placement of more than 700 youth for employment.
Digital Literacy
Efforts are being made to make students digitally literate in rural areas. The Foundation is sending digital buses to rural areas to provide computer-related information to students. The digital bus is being run under the name "ICT Lab on the Wheel". 20 computers and 2 LCD screen printers have been installed in the bus. To enhance leadership skills among students, a Swachh Vidyalaya Committee has been formed in the selected school premises. 20 students have been included in it. Everyone has been assigned different responsibilities. To enhance teaching skills among teachers, selected teachers have also been sent on exposure visits to other states.
Other works
Development works have been going on in 10 schools of Bhind district, 15 schools of Dhar district and 10 schools of Bhopal district for the last 3 years. The Foundation has repaired, painted and constructed the boundary wall of the school building. Under academic transformation, work is also being done on upgrading science laboratory and library. Priority has been given to construction of drinking water station in selected schools so that students get clean drinking water and repair of toilets. Benches, desks for students to sit in and green boards have also been provided in selected schools.
