Boosting the morale of the security forces deployed on the counter-terrorism grid, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday directed them to hunt down the terrorists and those harbouring them.
Echoing similar sentiments, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir police RR Swain claimed terrorism in Jammu will be wiped out in the next three months. He said people who are harbouring foreign terrorists will be tried under the Enemy Agents Act which is a much harsher law than the UAPA.
Responding to the question from a media person, DGP said to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem in the Union Territory we are considering invoking the Enemies Agents Act. According to him, the stringent law permits life imprisonment or the death penalty for those found aiding or abetting Pakistani terrorists. The DGP hoped the decisive action would serve as a deterrent discouraging locals not to support foreign terrorists.
According to the latest assessment reports around 35-40 foreign terrorists are active in the region south of Pir Panjal in the frontier districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
These terrorists are mostly camping inside safe hideouts in small groups of two to three terrorists and executing terror plots at the behest of their handlers sitting across Pakistan.
Official sources revealed during the high-level security review meetings these measures were discussed in the backdrop of increase in terror strikes across the Jammu region.
Following these directions, the security forces have further intensified anti-terrorist operations to neutralise these foreign terrorists.
Additional troops have been mobilised on ground zero to beef up security ahead of the Amarnath yatra starting from June 29.
