Former Union Minister Vijay Goel will lead a padyatra on Sunday from Machhli Bazaar to Ghazipur to protest the persistent issues of garbage and ‘Landfill Mountains’ in Delhi under the AAP government. “Be it water and sewage, pollution, broken roads, garbage and landfill mountains, deteriorating hospitals, schools, parking issues, law and order, corruption, or the polluted Yamuna – the Kejriwal government has done nothing for the past 10 years and keeps asking for more time every year, but no action has been taken to resolve these problems,” Goel said in a statement.
Goel said that instead of reducing, the landfill mountains are only growing larger. Meanwhile, he alleged the Delhi government continues to shirk its responsibility, blaming the Centre or neighbouring states, without formulating a single concrete plan to address the issue.
Goel also hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying, “If (Arvind) Kejriwal stops handing out freebies, AAP candidates wouldn’t even be able to save their deposits in elections, let alone form a government. The AAP Government has no significant achievements to show to the people, apart from distributing freebies. In this obsession with 'free, free, free,' the Kejriwal government has turned Delhi into a garbage dump.”
Goel said that there is no sign of relief for Delhiites from the towering garbage dump yards at Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla for the next four years. The Kejriwal-led MCD has extended the deadline to clear these landfill sites to December 2028.
